So, a suggestion about shikai abilities.
We're thinking of revising them a bit, right? Why don't we figure out what, exactly, we want each type to focus on.
Like we know that assassination needs to be stealth, but what about, oh, lightning or the rest?
Assassination Type- Stealth, quick kills. Barrier Type- personal defenses Blood Type- Debuff and nasty things to living enemies Darkness Type- Battlefield control? Earth Type- Battlefield manipulation, object destruction Fire Type- Damage. Pure damage. Healing Type- Reversing damage Ice Type- ? Kido Type- Enhancing Kido Light Type- ? Lightning Type- Hm... Maybe speed? Ideal for shunpo users Mind Type- enchantments and other mental manipulations Oppression Type- Fear, without a doubt Plant Type- Battlefield control and self healing? And imitating druids Poison Type- Poison. Duh. Projectile Type- Shooting projectiles. Duh. Sonic Type- I'd suggest dazing and the like. Summoning Type- calling forth monsters to fight for you. THIS needs to be redone already, so... Technological Type- Gadgets? Really, this seems kinda superflous Water Type- Illusions, manipulation Weapon Type- Being a weapon. Duh. Wind Type- Being a pain to hit
I also suggest adding a couple of more types, like, say, Weather, and the few mentioned on giantitp's thread, back on page 44.

Barrier actually needs real freaking Barriers.
In response to the new Kido system we will be working on, Barrier will also enhance Bakudo, while Kido will enhance Hado. Or, alternatively, Barrier will enhance Barrier-type Bakudo, Kido will enhance everything else for Kido. (Excluding Healing, of course.)
Armor powers from Barrier are/were in Weapon.. maybe put it all in there and keep it so! Dunno yet.
Technological needs Golem powers. (See D20 Classless)
We'll be adding Gravity, Games, Space, Sand, and Time (Possibly their Primal type), thanks to our Brother Project, d20 classless.
Another note; I didn't work with Summon. Didn't make it, didn't touch it. Will be revised with assistance from our team.

Walls of Force/Resilient Spheres, maybe? Tech... That sounds like a good idea, actually. Summoning... Well, I have several suggestions, the first of which is at the very least limiting the HD of the summon to 1/2th the Shinigami's. Those five you mention... Sounds cool. Where IS the classless system, though? Now I kinda want to take a look at it... As for my suggested Weather, I was thinking of making it a "prestige type", only allowable to take if you have one of (insert types related). So you COULD take it if you had Ice, or if you had Water, but not if you had Fire.

suggestions for types:
summoning: maybe make it work like fox-guys (can't remeber name) that some of the damage passess on to the wielder (say 50%, 25 with an ability)

Hm... Good ideas. Maybe make a couple of them that seem like they'd fit into Prestige types, too?

They've moved the Colour Spray tree to light, but it still lists charm and sleep as requirements.

A quick thought while on the subject of Shikai: I'm of the opinion that if we include some sort of prestige zanpakutou abilities, which are only available if you meet the requirements, that they should be Bankai abilities.
