and (I hope this dosen't sound patronising, but you seem earnestly convinced that High AC is overpowered against everyone, so i'll be going through this very methodically) as an example of mine and majors points.
there are 6 players in a group. for a laugh, they have decided to try some PVP
person a, known has bob, has built a general character. he can use all frms of offence and defence to a moderate level, but does not excell at any of them.
person b, know as tim, has built to be a melee god. his saves and defences are light, except against touch atacjs he's above average. he can take on most people with low-to moderate AC, but since he is a melee fighter strugles against AC.
percon C, Niel, has build a tank. he has AC coming out the wazoo, but not much else. he can take on any melee character, and maybe people with light AC if he gets close, but thats unlikely. he has no defence against saves
Person D, Sam, has built a ranged fighter, focusing on touch attacks. she is built for mobility. he can quite happily take on most melee fighters if she can keep at range. she struggles against attacks that strike at range
Person E, Miranda, has built someone focused on targeting saving thows, and protecting herself thusly. she can snipe at peoples saves, but has poor defences otherwise. she is easy to kill
this table shows an average reuslt of each person fighting one another, assuming the same level of tactics, and both playing to their strengths, and the same level of optimization.
A B C D E
A average average average average average

C average good poor poor poor

melee is effective against everything but AC. Everything
AC sucks against everything but AC. Everything
there are direpancies between what builds can do, or else we would not have builds and each character would be identical. If your buiod is effective in only one situation
so yes, whilst the melee character would be just as vulnerable, he'd also hit a metric crap ton harder. you need to look at every facet, not just the one your individual point refers to. A character built for damage will hit harder than one built for AC, thus making him more effecitve against everything else, not the same effectiveness. it's how life work. it's how DnD works. if you don't like that fact, then i suggest (in the most non-insultive way I can) you stop playing DnD and go play some Xbox rpgs, since their much more like what you like
also, still outvoted, and the more you make the same point of "I should beat everything, his build made to stop me and suck against everyone shouldn't stop me" the more people are less likely to take your side
