I think that's actually just him sneaking up on people for a normal surprise round, rather than launching one from nowhere in the middle of a battle.

Well they make a point to mention it in the show, Tousen spoke of how his presence always seemed invisible, I think it's more a part of his character, like a feat than him being a sneaky type, especially considering he's massive.

I agree that he's sneaky for his size, but then he's generally a quiet mover. I'm ust thinking that the move silently and hide skills would represent it better than a single feat. though I do give that the feat to boost those 2 skills is goddawful, so... and maybe a feat that lets you ignore size penalties for some things might be good too to show how the fox is nearly as good as toshiro for it also, skill focus/skillful anakuto ability might work better to represent it than a new feat as well (can't rember what focus does, but the latters +10. that's pretty sneaky

He's big, but I wouldn't go so far as to say Large Sized...I'd give him powerful build, like a Goliath or Half-Giant....big, all the benefits of being large, none of the penalties.

They switch his size up a few times throughout the manga, when he first appears, he really is that massive. He could have nommed on someone when he first appears, as the series progressed, he slowly shrinked.

well, his size hasn't changed all that much. It's just he's only been shown directly next to either zakari (who's already about 7ft something and was still much shorter), an arrancar who was already huge, and Tousen. And Tousen came up to about his armpits
add in the fact he's at least twice as broad as those two and you have the making of a large character
though powerful build may make a good feat, thinking about it.

I was just thinking the same thing about a powerful build feat...
How to balance it is the big thing...that and how would it be useful unless their zanapakuto automatically increased in size also.

I've seen a Powerful Build as a 1st level feat in other homebrew things, makes sense since that's basically like a racial thing...gotta choose it before you're able to do anything else.
Just some input.

If it comes with a penalty, perhaps it ought to be a template instead.

What penalty is that? Powerful Build doesn't take size penalties to attack, AC, or hide checks.

The Powerful Build as feat idea seems reasonable to me.
Anyway, feat idea, since I took a look at Kingdoms of Kalimar's Player guide and saw something that would be good, with a bit of adaptation...
Overwhelming Reiatsu When two spiritual pressures clash, the weaker one often overwhelms the smaller, damaging it. Prerequisites: SEP of 6, Bloodied, Damage Reduction, Base Attack Bonus +6 Benefit: If you are attacked with a spiritually empowered melee weapon wielded by an opponent of equal or lower level with a lower SEP score than you, it takes damage equal to your amount of damage reduction. You still take damage normally.
Based on "Tough as Nails", if you couldn't guess. That version is flat out half of what it deals you for any weapon, and has different requirements. I figure this is more reasonable.

looks reasonable, though giving how it's pretty easy to pick up high DR, maybe only bouncing back 1/2 DR might be a bit fairer (especially since this is only a feat)

Suddenly, a suggested feat idea appeared. With wording to prevent much abuse. Powerful Build [General]Prerequisites: Str 15, Con 15 Benefit: You gain the Powerful Build quality, as the Half-Giant. Special: This feat may only be taken at first level. Special: For the purpose damage of weapons and natural attacks gained from classes, you are treated as one size category larger than you normally would be. For instance, a Human Shinigami with this feat is treated as Large for his Zanpakuto damage, as opposed to medium.

What's the Damage Progression for a Large Zanpakutou? Cause as far as I know there isn't one.

Bump it up by one size, as per normal for scaling damage.
